About Maura Brothers & Co. and History

In 1939, brothers Mario and John Maura entered into the landscape gardening and maintenance business being operated by their father Michelangelo.

The two brothers worked side by side until 1940 when John entered into the military service, stationed in Anchorage, Alaska. The business continued to evolve during this time and soon added a quality nursery and garden supply center which opened in Manhasset, New York.

The Maura brothers were reunited following John's discharge and together continued to provide their customers with professional service and quality landscape design. The Maura Garden Center was renowned for its spectacular offering of Christmas trees, wreaths and roping during the holiday season.

Maura Bros. now offered a full service company that would provide masonry, asphalt services, retaining walls, drainage systems, excavation and site work as well as commercial snow removal.

In 1967 Maura Bros. moved to Port Washington under the leadership of John Sr. while the Garden Center remained in Manhasset operating under the watchful eye of Mario who remained at its helm.

Today Maura Bros. continues in the traditions started in the 1930's, affording its customers the best in quality service and design, with brothers John Jr. and Ronald embracing those same principles of integrity, honesty and customer satisfaction that their grandfather instilled in the business at it's inception.

Maura Bros., entering its third generation with over 70 years of continued operation would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our customers and friends past, present, and future for their continued support. We look forward to serving you in the years to come.
